The history of Japanese art spans from the 6th century to the modern era and includes paintings, calligraphy, architecture, pottery, sculpture, bronzes, jade carvings, poetry and more.[1] This extensive archive of art is categorized by certain Japanese aesthetics and characteristics. It is compiled into several periods: Formative period, Asuka period, Hakuho period, Nara period, Heian period, Kamakura period, Muromachi period, Azuchi-Momoyama period, Tokugawa/Edo period, Postwar period and the Heisei/Modern period.
